Emerald Rose article continued from last page, click here! Aquarius:
You are known for your composition
of a particularly infamous song regarding
poultry. Would you share the story
with our readers? Larry:
I wrote The Chicken Raid of
Cymru on the tractor, bush-hogging
my property one day. I'd been
simultaneously studying Welsh mythology
and the role of chickens in sustainable
permaculture, and I'd just finished
building a chicken house out of mortared
beer bottles. It's possible I
was trying to do too much in too little
time, or possibly I wasn't entirely
sane. At any rate, I'd envisioned
this as a fire-circle chuckle and
not a performance song, so I was rather
surprised to find myself launched
into comedic stardom in this manner.
At any rate, the song's basically
a retelling of a Welsh myth run through
West Texas with a ZZ Top guitar line
and a variable psychotic break in
the middle. Aquarius:
Clyde, how did you go from emulating
Kiss, to Goth, to Celtic music? That's
a pretty radical segue. Clyde:
The freaky nightmare of Kiss was the
first music that actually got my attention
as a kid, and later it seemed very
natural to delve into the darker
or more mysterious music that dealt
with the unseen or occult matter.
Back then some of the best stuff was
coming from the early Goth scene,
and I met some very intelligent and
talented people. There was a healthy
dose of roots reggae thrown in along
the way, with the magick of the Rastafari.
As I continued my studies the bloodline
started to stir, and I was blindsided
by the power of Celtic music. It was
like the final piece of the puzzle
falling into place. I still have all
the elements of Kiss and all the rest,
but now it seems as I have been given
the perspective of my heritage along
with it. It's pretty cool. Aquarius:
Arthur, I love the story on your web
site about how you chose guitar as
your instrument. Would you share that
with our readers? Arthur:
Well, I have written songs for as
long as can remember. I reached a
place in my life when I really wanted
to get them down on paper. I needed
to play an instrument, and since it
was hard to carry a piano into the
park and pick up girls, I chose the
guitar. Aquarius:
We’d like to thank you for the
interview and for playing our Birthday
