Yoga
is a generous
two-CD anthology
that belongs
in the library
of every world
music lover
or yoga practitioner.
The first CD
contains healing
chants
performed by
such well-known
artists as
Krishna Das,
Jay Uttal, Deva
Premal,
and Rasa.
Many of the
tracks on the
first CD are
upbeat in tempo,
suitable for
dance music
as well as for
power yoga.
The second CD
is entirely
instrumental
and contains
longer tracks.
It is more suitable
for yoga, relaxation, bodywork, or meditation techniques. A booklet accompanies
the CD set and
illustrates
some of the
most commonly
practiced asanas
or yoga poses.
Planet
Yoga
is surely a
greatest
hits for
yoga music fans.
- CS Agnus
Dei,
a project for
music and poetry,
is the result
of a collaboration
between Gerald
and Hilde
Krampl,
of Vienna, Austria.
Their two CDs,
Lemuria
and Merlyn,
are a poetic
and musical
venture into
fantasy and
mythology. All
of the songs
were written
and performed
by classically
trained musician
Gerald Krampl,
while Hilde
Krample wrote
the poetry,
which was translated
into English
by Carolyne
John. The
music is instrumental
and the poetry
is included
in the booklet.
Lemuria
tells the story
of an heroic
effort by the
citizens of
Lemuria to protect
their homeland
from an enemy.
The
CD Merlyn
tells the first-person
tale of Merlin's
vision of the
future, when
he joins an
elite group
of Wise Ones
and is empowered
to serve mankind.
The poems that
accompany this
CD are comforting
to anyone going
through a rough
time, as Merlyn
gains confidence
in his dream.
Both CDs are
available through
www.cdbaby.com
or the Agnus
Dei web site
at www.indigomusic.at.
- KS Just
in time for
those eager
holiday shoppers,
Michael Dowdle
releases A
Sacred Christmas.
These intimate
and flawlessly
executed acoustic
guitar solos
are just the
cure for holiday
music that jangles
more than it
jingles. The
songs are gentle
and serene,
qualities much
appreciated
around the holidays.
They include
all the standards:
O Holy Night,
It Came Upon
a Midnight Clear,
O Little Town
of Bethlehem,
The First Noel,
Ave Maria, Away
In A Manger,
Coventry Carol,
Silent Night,
O Come All Ye
Faithful.
Dowdle has been
compared to
Michael Hedges
and Will Acherman
as a technically
brilliant performer.
A Sacred
Christmas
goes beyond
technical brilliance,
however; it
is a loving,
gentle guide
to the quiet
of our own inner
sanctums. -
KS Acclaimed
pianist-composer
Paul Cardall's
new CD, Miracles,
is a lush, symphonic
soundscape which
also features
the Salt Lake
Children's
Choir and a
solo vocal by
Kimberly Summers.
The song, The
Memory Lives
On, was
chosen by the
families of
the Oklahoma
City Federal
Building bombing
to be played
during the dedication
of the new memorial.
Cardall's
music is exquisitely
lovely and will
be a graceful
background for
the holidays
and beyond.
