Kim
Rogers-Gallagher:An Astrologer with
a Humorous Touch
By
Kathryn Silverton
In preparation for her upcoming
visit to Atlanta this November, I
recently interviewed Sarasota based
astrologer Kim Rogers-Gallagher. True
to her Sagittarian nature, this bubbly,
upbeat 43 year old spring chicken
shared with me how she got into astrology,
how her books evolved and her perspective
on such things as the old school versus
the new school of thinking.
Astrology,
in Kim's mind, is something that
we all know, whether we're aware
of it or not. Yes, astrology uses
symbols or as she calls them, labels,
which represent feelings we already
know, people or circumstances we've
already encountered in our daily lives.
For example, the Midheaven in a chart
refers to our career point, our status
or standing. That may be a rather
heady, esoteric way of simply saying
the Midheaven represents our boss.
Venus we all know of as the love nature,
Mars we experience as our urge to
express anger. It is through this
rather simplistic approach that Kim
conveys her understanding of astrology
to her audience and her readers. She
found early on in her studies of astrology
that the majority of material written
on this subject tended toward the
esoteric and as a result, found many
a reader confused and befuddled. So
Kim has boiled astrology down to something
to which we can all relate, presenting
her ideas with humor, not with the
intent of impressing her audience
with her ideas. Sagittarius being
a sign that prefers to think of life
as one big sandbox, Kim finds that
she learns better when she is entertained
and therefore delivers her astrological
material in such a way that it is
fun for her audience. She loves audience
participation in her talks because
she feels that everyone has a story
to tell, and it is through these stories
that she is able to present interesting
anecdotes.
Since
Kim will be giving a talk on the Water
houses to our Astrological Society,
I asked her to elaborate on them a
bit. She feels that the water houses
tend to be lumped together into a
general category of sensitivity and
psychic nature. Kim sees them more
as the difference between instinct,
intuition and perception, each being
different types of antennae. Intuition
is akin to getting into a swimming
pool and feeling a current of a different
temperature coming upon you. You know
something is different because you
are in the current and you are part
of it. Perception is more like picking
up and sending out subtle clues. Instinct,
on the other hand, is innate memory,
something we are all born with.
