Mayan
and Toltec Prophecy In the Light of Jyotish
By
Randy Spiers
We have entered into a time of change in consciousness that has
no parallel in recorded history. If we examine the teachings of
the early indigenous civilizations of the Americas, we realize
that they have been calling humankind's attention to the significance
of this current period for more than a thousand years. It is truly
sobering to grasp that we are actually living in the era that
the Toltec naguals and Mayan shamans were referring to in their
prophecies and calendars.
Toltec
tradition has left us a timetable of sorts. Their seers predicted
an earthquake in their largest city of Tenochtitlan (now Mexico
City) which would be followed by a five-year period of quiet.
At the end of the five years the period of The Sixth Sun
was to begin. Mexico City was stricken by a severe earthquake
in 1986. Five years later on January 11, 1992 The Sixth Sun began.
It is during this period we awaken to the understanding that we
are dreaming this life and, more importantly, that
we can change the dream. Scholars of the Mayan tradition say that
we are in the last katun (cycle) of the calendar which
actually ends in December, 2012. This point in time is said to
signify the end of civilization as we are used to it and the beginning
of post-industrial, co-operative society.
According to both traditions we are in a time of learning to take
responsibility for the unsustainable lifestyle we have created
at both the material and spiritual level. Although challenging,
the events of the period will give us an opportunity to learn
to create in harmony with our True Nature. If we intend it to
be so, we will be able to regain our lost capacity for magic and
re-connect to the Divine evolutionary matrix we are a part of.
The astrological picture of the sky in 1992 provides a fitting
metaphor for the beginning of such an auspicious time. In Vedic
astrology planet Pluto was in the constellation Vishaka for all
of 1992. This constellation is symbolized by a branch with two
forks. This reflects its somewhat dual nature. One side is feminine
offering hope and optimism for the future. The other side is decidedly
more masculine and reflects patriarchal, aggressive and controlling
qualities. Pluto is the planet that brings to our awareness accumulated,
unresolved karma. It does so according to the energies of the
constellation it occupies. The Hindu deities whose qualities are
associated with Vishaka are Indra, the powerful God of thunder
and transformation, and Agni, the God of fire and purification.
In the last months of 2012, the potent energy of constellation
Vishaka will be re-activated astrologically. They will be triggered
as the Vedic Destiny Point (Rahu) transits through Vishaka. While
Pluto's influence has supported us in dismantling karmic imbalances
from the past, the transiting Destiny Point will help us to establish
a foundation of clearer, more conscious intention for our actions.
The best way for us to participate in this highly energized period
is to understand and practice the Toltec precept of Conscious
Intention. Conscious intention is the most efficient way
to channel our creative energies into manifestation of what we
want for ourselves as individuals and for our planet. Conscious
intention is something that already exists. It pervades all things.
It is the creative force of the self-aware, conscious Universe
we are a part of. Tapping into conscious intention requires that
we drop into an inner space of Knowing and Truth and feel the
unlimited possibility behind whatever issue we are dealing with
in a given moment.
Our capacity for conscious intention is taking a quantum leap
in 2004. This is due to a very powerful Lunar eclipse in late
2003. Although this eclipse took place in November, 2003, six
to twelve months are required for the effects of an eclipse to
become well integrated into our lives. The Lunar eclipse of November
took place within a very powerful arrangement of the planets.
Starting with the Moon, every sixtieth degree of the zodiac was
occupied by one of the personal planets or the asteroid Chiron.
The personal planets are those that relate to us as individuals.
Chiron is the asteroid associated with healing and new thought.
Chiron serves as a bridge allowing the passage of non-physical
energy to the physical world.
The potent arrangement of the planets during the powerful November
eclipse signifies a deterioration of the influence of mass consciousness
on our reality. It suggests an augmentation of the power of individual
conscious intention to influence the Earth's morphogenic field
and to bring forth change. In 2004 it is our time to find, then
rest in, the place of Knowing and Truth about why we are here
and what illuminates our sense of Soul fulfillment. In this place
the magic of intention is found and effortless manifestation of
what we aspire to will result. It is interesting to note that
the Toltecs of long ago identified the most important, pivotal
phase of our re-creation in the Light as The Path of Intention.
