Core
Energetics:
Psychotherapy and the Body by Kathryn Sargent Pamela
L. Chubbuck, Ph.D., internationally recognized teacher
of Core Energetics, will be presenting a four-day introductory
seminar in June and a four year professional training
program starting this fall in the Atlanta area. Chubbuck,
a student and colleague of Core
Energetics founder John Pierrakos MD, and a senior faculty
member at the Institute of Core Energetics, is an ordained
Interfaith minister, psychologist, and an LPC, who was
a midwife and birthing educator. Pam is the author of
a
new audio tape, Woman Spirit: A Menarche Myth, which
teaches and celebrates young women coming of
age. Pam's new book, Passages to Womanhood: Stories
of Celebration for Girls and Young Women, will be
published this fall.
Aquarius:
Pam, you have referred to Core Energetics as body-centered-spiritual
psychotherapy. How does this modality work?
PC:
Core Energetics is an evolutionary process, as it
works to take us from our suffering to become responsible,
joyous co-creators in our own lives. It works with all
known parts of the human being...body, emotions, mind,
will and spirit. Each person is treated as an individual.
We are then assisted to deal with our childhood wounds,
our suffering and the ways that we sabotage ourselves
from being who we truly are. We [learn] how to see our
own beauty, positive qualities, truth, spirituality, and
our love, all of which comprise our Core. Always
working through bodily information, we are assisted in
finding and releasing whatever keeps us stuck. We then
may recover our spontaneity, joy, pleasure, and our Life
Force, our spirit, which is our healing current.
Aquarius:
Explain to readers how this process incorporates body,
mind, spirit, the will and emotions.
P.C.:
Our body is our frozen history. A
Core Energetic therapist has been taught to understand
and read the body
for diagnostic purposes. A body gives us immediate, accurate
information, about history, ways of defending,
vulnerabilities,
and the best ways to heal. We then use this information
to assist our client.
In
a session, a client sometimes works physically
and energetically by taking certain postures,
moving the body, jumping on a mini trampoline,
etc., and vocalizing. Emotions are brought to
the surface and expressed. We analyze,
with
the client, negative patterns, belief systems,
and life images. People are taught to find and
use their positive will, the will of the heart,
to assist them in making their best choices in
life. Essentially, a person is supported in learning
to give and receive love, also in finding their
own creativity, pleasure in everyday life, and
in enlivening and experiencing
their own life force. That to
me is true spirituality.
