Mea
Culpa, mea culpa. Greetings readers. Please accept my humble apologies
for a typographical error in which I stated George Bush was born
July 26 instead of July 6. My predictions were based on his correct
birth date. I accidently added a 2 in front of his birth date.
Thanks to all those who caught this error.

Presidential
Candidates: What's In Their Stars?
By
Kathryn L. Silverton
The political questions of the year are, who will oppose George
W. Bush, and will they be able to defeat him?
If
you look at the Democratic contenders, some interesting patterns
emerge. Strikingly, Howard Dean, Joe Lieberman, John Kerry and
John Edwards all have a Gemini moon. John Kerry's and Joe
Lieberman's moons are both in the same degree, 17, just two degrees
shy of the sun of John Edwards and Gary Nolan both born
on the same day, one year apart. What differentiates John Kerry
from the crowd is that he was born on a full moon and has the
sun in the opposing sign of Sagittarius, and a Sagittarius ascendant.
The Gemini influence suggests that all have the gift of gab, the
ability to be persuasive and well versed in a wide variety of
subjects, and the mandatory frenetic energy that it takes to maintain
the hectic pace of a campaign and a presidency.
Those who differ from the above-mentioned pack include Wesley
Clark, Al Sharpton, Dennis Kucinich and the Libertarian candidate,
Badnarik.
Wesley Clark
This hard-working Scorpio-rising general possesses tenacity and
shrewdness and a unique ability to work within as well as outside
of the system. Born with the sun and Mercury conjunct in the early
degrees of Capricorn, he has a natural feel for how government
operates and for those who govern. He feels comfortable around
those in positions of power, and, thanks to Mars in his first
House and an Aries moon, has ample competitiveness to be a warrior.
His chart shows elevated attention as of the fall of 2003
when Jupiter made its way to Clark's Midheaven but
the spotlight dims once it reverts to the 9th House in mid-March.
Howard Dean
Part of what makes a Scorpio successful is his intensity and refusal
to budge. They are highly resourceful, particularly when it comes
to assessing the strengths of those around them. Dean's infamous
I have a Scream speech after the Iowa caucus is evidence
of the true passion of this sign. The American public is unaccustomed
to seeing it uncensored in the political arena. The darker underbelly
of Scorpio is allowing frustrations such as bitterness and resentment
to become pent up. Once they are released, take cover, as the
barbs are sharp and biting. This speech may have been evidence.
Between the last week of February and the second to last week
of April, Pluto will come as close as it's going to come to
his natal Mars. This is do or die time and, with Mercury
going retrograde in April in an unfavorable position to his natal
Scorpio planets, he's not likely to get good press. Between that
and transiting Jupiter on his natal Vertex in April and May, he's
vulnerable to the actions of his competitors. They will find his
Achilles Heel.
John Edwards
With
Jupiter conjunct his natal moon, he has the ability to garner support
from the general

public.
Of all the candidates, he has the most planets in Gemini (four),
and Mercury in Cancer.
Thanks to the Mercury placement, his message resonates with the
common folk. His Virgo Ascendant (by solar chart) accounts for his
clean-cut appearance and his appeal to the working class. Starting
in mid-January, Saturn pitched his tent on top of Edward's natal
Mercury, and won't budge until the end of April. This is the
ideal and, in reality, only window where his ideas will be brought
into focus in the public's eye. From mid-July through early October
he'll be reinventing himself, thanks to Pluto opposing his sun.

Like
John Kerry, he too is a Sagittarius rising, but with the sun in
Pisces and the moon in Gemini. One of the most compassionate signs,
Pisces is selfless in its desire to be of service to
others.
And Sag rising gives him the optimism to push ahead. He is blessed
with Mercury in Aquarius, the sign of the genius, so he might
be one of the more intelligent of the bunch when it comes to raw
IQ. He is very open-minded, receptive to different ways of looking
at the world, and might admit to personally being pro gay marriage.
Lieberman pulled out of the race after the February primaries,
ending his second run.
At worst, being malleable, Pisces can be seen as having little
backbone. Perhaps this is why he lacks appeal to the general public.
His natal Mars, the planet that gives us a competitive spirit,
is pinned between Saturn and Uranus. Although the Saturn influence
gives him remarkable ability to work within the system and Uranus

the
ability to take controversial stances, the Saturn influence doesn't
add a strong competitive spirit. And since the theme for the Democrats
seems to be, Who can beat Bush? Lieberman does not
score high in this category.
Dennis
Kucinich
He's
a double Libra, both sun and Ascendant, with the moon in Pisces.
With his sun conjunct Neptune, he can truly be labeled an idealist.
Librans find themselves trying to maintain a happy balance rather
than being pulled one way or the other. With a trio of planets
in Scorpio Mercury, Jupiter and Mars his greatest
weapon is his relentlessness. Intellectually he has the capacity
to grasp far-reaching concepts and will dig doggedly to find answers.
With his Pisces moon near Lieberman's sun, they could see
eye to eye.

Another
Libra sun with a Sagittarius moon and Cancer Ascendant, he has
carved his own niche in the world, just as a crab retreats to
its home on its back. With his sun in the 4th House, ruler of
the 3rd, he's more successful when he keeps his focus regional,
but that's hard to do with several planets in the spotlight-seeking
5th House. With Saturn on his Ascendant throughout the spring,
he has an uphill battle.

One
of numerous Libertarian candidates, he has the same birthday as
John Edwards, only one year apart. Not surprisingly, the planet
of Uranus plays a prominent role. Uranus represents the rebel
who is willing to break the mold and look at the world from a
different perspective than the so-called norm. It
is often found in the charts of people such as inventors, astrologers
and those considered to be ingenious. In Nolan's chart, Uranus
sits alongside Venus, the planet of our values; and the South
Node of the moon and Mercury. Its proximity to Mercury implies
a lean toward open-minded thinking; and next to the South Node,
that he's gone down this path before in other lifetimes.

Badnarik |
Michael
Badnarik
Another
Libertarian candidate, similar to Nolan, has Uranus conjunct his
natal Mercury, indicative of a non-mainstream type of thinking.
As a Leo he is no stranger to the stage, and with both the moon
and Venus in Virgo, his desire is to be of service and to improve
the system's glitches.
John Kerry
Born with the sun trine its ruler, Jupiter, it's not hard
to see how John Kerry was born into opportunity and also married
into it. This influence helps him address bigger issues and gives
him a good understanding of the legislative process. Mercury in
Capricorn gives him considerable focus and the capacity for methodical
thinking. Of all the contenders' charts, his is the only one
with Mars in the 7th House of the opposition, and conjunct his
moon.
With Mars being the planet of the warrior, it makes sense that
his campaign emphasizes his military service. And it is this conjunction
of Mars and the moon that hints at the fight within him and therefore
the best chance of winning. Edwards, given the chance, could pose
almost as much of a threat, since his Mars is close to his sun.
The chance of Kerry clinching the nomination shows up like a sore
thumb as early as April. At that time his progressed moon will
sit on top of his natal Jupiter, ruler of his sun and ascendant,
while at the same time the other candidates' charts show signs
of retreating. Edwards might be the last to cave in, as his disillusionment
doesn't show up until June when his progressed moon opposes
natal Saturn.
Could Kerry beat Bush?
President Bush needs to look at where the planets will roost on
November 2, and where they are during the campaign. Between mid-July
and mid-October, Pluto will come within a degree of a conjunction
to Kerry's natal sun. This suggests the possibility of him reinventing
himself (and perhaps his staff), but also gives him considerable
stamina.
By mid-October Jupiter sits exactly on Kerry's Neptune, suggesting
some significant mudslinging, with a cloud of suspicion cast around
him. Neptune can be seen as the planet of ideals, achieving a
(pipe) dream and a willingness to sacrifice. In this case it falls
in his 10th House of career and professional standing. In Kerry's
chart, Neptune rules the natal 4th House, which represents one's
roots and, in the case of an election, the country's roots.
Neptune can represent illusion, deception, disappointment and,
with Jupiter hovering over it and having the tendency to expand
whatever it's in or around, a lingering cloud of suspicion
and/or disillusionment. Beyond Election Day to January of 2005,
Kerry's chart shows no obvious gain in stature, responsibility
or visibility.
The Incumbent

George
W. Bush |
Will
history repeat itself Like father, like son?
Circumstantially, it would appear as though W has
his work cut out for him. Like his father, he won the war, in
that he captured Saddam Hussein. This happened when Saturn was
sitting on Bush's natal sun, suggesting that this was a long-term
effort that finally came to fruition. Saturn represents the father,
and it was, of course, his father who first tried to get Hussein.
But Iraq is not going smoothly. Where are the weapons? What about
the intelligence reports? Why is Bush spending money like a Democrat?
And will it again be a matter of it's the economy, stupid,
or perhaps more fittingly, it's employment, stupid.
Leading up to the election, some things fall into place for President
Bush. Jupiter moves into his natal 3rd House in late August, suggesting
a favorable press. By election time, President Bush is ironically
in a similar situation as Bill Clinton in 1992 when he ran against
the elder Bush. Bush's son has a lot of planets in Libra.
And, as in 1992, Jupiter will be in Libra by the time of the 2004
election. Jupiter will hover over Bush's natal Neptune and
also his moon, which represents the public. Additionally, Saturn
will be making its return to its natal position, suggesting a
narrowing down of his long-term focus. Mars sits on his 4th House
cusp, conjunct progressed Jupiter, another indicator of support
from the home turf. The sun on Election Day also happens to fall
right on top of his natal Part of Fortune, obviously fortuitous.
Therefore, if I were a betting astrologer, I'd place my bet
on the incumbent. Time will tell.

Research
for this article is based upon the above data. When a time of birth
is unknown, it is customary to cast the chart for approximately noon,
or more precisely, when the sun sits on the Midheaven (MC), since that
is the House associated with one's professional standing. (A solar
chart can also be cast for around sunrise, or when the sun is right
on the ascendant, but since we are looking at the careers of these candidates,
the sun on MC charts is used.)
