Acupuncture is not the only function of Oriental Medicine, but it may be the best known among Americans. According to Acupuncture Today online magazine (acupuncturetoday.com) over 5,000 individuals  have been licensed in acupuncture and over 1,000 in oriental herbology, to date. This growing field now has over 45 accredited schools around the nation, with three regulatory agencies overseeing their programs. These agencies include: the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine; the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine; and the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. There are also several professional member associations.

Recently, Gloria, Dorothy and I (the Aquarius staff) had the honor of visiting  Georgia's first fully licensed and accredited school of Oriental Medicine. Edgewood College of Georgia School of Oriental Medicine is located at 3300 Buckeye Road, in the Buckeye Towers of Atlanta, within sight of the Interstate's intersection  known as Spaghetti Junction.

Beth Reese, the Office Manager at Edgewood, graciously conducted a tour of the facilities for us. We were shown two computer labs, one for computer instruction and the library's computer lab for research, lessons, contact with family through email, and fun. The medical library includes texts on Oriental Medicine and Western Medicine (or biomedicine), and students have online library privileges with Emory Medical School and Michigan University's Medical School. Edgewood's library collection is open to health professionals and interested lay people by special arrangement, and is a welcome resource to researchers and alumni. They also provide popular publications in Spanish, Korean, Chinese, and other languages.
