Healing
Places
by
Judy Winters
Shamans
learn to look
for healing
in the most
unlikely of
places. A
case in point:
My client,
whom I will
call Loretta,
had been hospitalized
briefly with
an abdominal
infection
and then sent
home with
a packet of
pills; however,
her condition
worsened,
and unable
to leave her
house, she
asked that
I come to
her. As I
began setting
up my shamanic
paraphernalia
in her bedroom,
I noticed
a dark energy
just to the
left of the
bed. Ritually
I cleared
the room with
feather and
smoke, but
still the
darkness lingered.
What's
wrong?
Loretta queried
anxiously
as I reworked
the area beside
her bed. That
spot has bothered
me ever since
my ex and
I bought this
place fourteen
years ago.
The previous
owner died
at home, and
since this
is the master
bedroom, he
may have died
right here.
I've thought
of putting
a window in,
but now that
I have decided
to sell the
house, I guess
I won't bother."
Let
me check it
out.
I moved cautiously
toward the
shadow I observed
shifting along
the wall.
Shaking my
rattle three
times, I demanded
that the offending
energy reveal
itself and
immediately
got an image
of a wedding
ring and the
impression
of a violated
marital contract.
Backing away,
I reported
what I had
learned.
Loretta
turned thoughtful.
I wonder
if the wife
cheated on
him. He was
ill for a
really long
time. And
after his
death, his
wife got so
sick she had
to sell the
house. Maybe
it was guilt.
Her
reference
to guilt brought
to mind the
metaphorical
meaning of
illnesses
such as hers
centered in
the solar
plexus - loss
of personal
power, often
temporarily
assuaged by
guilt.
Tell me more about your own marriage and how it ended, I prompted. The resulting story did not surprise me.
Just
prior to
moving into
this house,
Loretta
had a son
born from
an affair.
Her husband
knew the
child was
not his,
but they
both wanted
to save
the relationship.
A couple
of years
later they
had a daughter
together.
As time
went by,
however,
the marriage
became so
strained
that Loretta's
husband
filed for
divorce,
leaving
her with
both children
and the
house. And
now her
illness
confined
her to this
room.
