Venerable Thubten Chodron, an American Buddhist nun and author of many books and articles on Tibetan Buddhism will give an evening of teachings at the Drepung Loseling Institute on Sunday, June 18, 2000. Her talk, entitled "Open Heart, Clear Mind," will focus on the fundamental principles of Buddhist philosophy and their salutary effect on mental and emotional stress.

Venerable Thubten Chodron is well known for her warm and lucid teachings. A graduate of UCLA, she has studied and practiced Tibetan Buddhism under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Zopa Rinpoche, and other Tibetan masters for many years in India and Nepal. Ordained as a Buddhist nun in 1977, she is resident teacher at Dharma Friendship Foundation in Seattle, WA and teaches Buddhist philosophy, psychology, and meditation worldwide. Her books include Open Heart, Clear Mind; Taming the Monkey Mind; Blossoms of the Dharma: Living as a Buddhist Nun; and What Color is Your Mind? Ven. Thubten Chodron emphasizes the practical application of Buddha's teachings in our daily lives, and she is especially skilled at explaining them in ways easily understood and practiced by Westerners.

The Drepung Loseling Institute, North American Seat of Drepung Loseling Monastery and an affiliate of Emory University, is particularly pleased to host Venerable Thubten Chodron. The Drepung Loseling Institute has maintained an exceptional roster of authentic Buddhist teachers including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, His Holiness Ganden Tri Rinpoche, Drubthob Rinpoche, and author and lecturer Glenn Mullin. Ven Chodron will be the first Western nun to speak at the facility, located at 2531 Briarcliff Road, Suite 101. This visit to Atlanta is Ven. Authors Appear to Benefit
AIDS ATLANTA

Joel Rothschild, author of Signals, and Mary Jo McCabe, author of Learn to See: An Approach To Your Inner Voice Through Symbols, will appear at the AIDS ATLANTA benefit on Saturday, July 22 at the JW Marriott Hotel Lenox.

After fifteen years with full-blown AIDS, Joel Rothschild is one of the longest - living AIDS survivors in this country. He has lived through indescribable suffering and loss, including the death of his best friend, Albert. Before Albert's death, the two friends promised to contact each other after death. Although Joel was initially a skeptic, he discovered "signals" from Albert that began to drift into his consciousness. By opening himself up to the possibility of communication with the deceased, Joel discovered he possessed psychic gifts that could help others. He tells of this discovery as well as his own struggle with AIDS and the ultimate improvement of his health. His manuscript was turned down by major publishers until publisher Marc Allen accepted it for New World Libary. After Joel's appearance on The Leeza Show, the book's sales went up exponentially, and he has also appeared on the Art Bell Show.

Mary Jo McCabe's gift provides her audiences with a unique personal insight and inner guidance through her ability to receive information from their higher consciousness. Mary Jo has worked with and conducted a number of workshops and lectures with many of the nation's most well respected personalities, including Dr. Elisabeth Kubler - Ross, Dr. Brian Weiss, as well as Dr. Raymond Moody. She also hosts a weekly radio show called The Mary Jo McCabe Show, and is currently developing her own television show to be aired twice weekly beginning in May, 2000.
