What
you don't know won't hurt you
For
those of you that don't know, Aquarius was conceived through
a series of dreams - it took nine months of disrupted sleep
to 'get it.' It was just like a real birth and, thinking
back on that time, it had all the same uncertainties and fears
- including the feeling that you wouldn't know how to be
a good parent or, in this case, a good steward. All the responsibilities
and worries were there too. This month marks our 13th anniversary!
I feel like the child has grown up, and the Bar Mitzvah is being
planned. The paper has come into its own. I couldn't be
prouder of the quality we've accomplished - from our dynamic
cover art to the thought-provoking content, the paper has done
a great job of presenting an array of the best alternative practitioners
and services offered by our advertisers.
It's
fun to be different - to live in the world of cutting edge technology,
to know about the best 'latest' books, the 'newest'
knowledge, and the philosophies that still seem to totally escape
the mainstream!
Every day, more and more doctors, not to mention the mainstream
media, seem to be trying to catch up. But, 'cutting edge'
means you're the first to embrace a new concept, usually
something you haven't heard of before, and that is very
difficult for the medical profession to do. We live in the Information
Age, and it isn't going away - The Aquarian Age will be
here for 2,500 years, like it or not!! The only way to survive
today's world and live life to the fullest is to have an
open mind.
I told a friend over the weekend that my definition of being
'stupid' was someone resistant to learning anything
new.
I'm so anxious for the scales to tip the other way. The
day will come when common water cooler talk will be about the
modalities that work - acupuncture, massage, chiropractic, naturopathy
- and the people that know how to build the body's immune
system through nutrition and non-evasive therapies. I just can't
wait to hear how those mainstream doctors explain 'energy.'
By the time you see a news flash about a 'new discovery'
on TV, the alternative community has already known that - and
has 'been there, done that.' (Just some more old information
that some genius doctor stumbled upon that, even at their best,
is a little too late for all the people they could have helped
if they were awake earlier. )
Dr. Sanja Gupta from CNN is doing a great job bringing up topics
that are fascinating. I caught the series he did about the brain
and how it functions differently for men and women. He even
did a segment that explained why men don't ask for directions.
I love knowing about the brain, and, yes, I've heard it
before - eighteen years ago when I studied with Tom Kenyon --
and thought it was fascinating then. But it did make me happy
that I was hearing it from a 'real' doctor (a brain
surgeon, who is just too cute by the way) and he's mentioning
alternative therapies in a positive, good light to his viewers.
The cancer association just did a new food pyramid that's
amusing to me. Our naturopathic doctors have been talking about
the importance of nutrition forever, and they've been poo-pooed
by the medical profession forever. But, now the truth comes
out and they've been vindicated. But, can you ever make
up for their slanderous attitude that if you not one of them,
you're UN-informed, UN-educated and basically UN-intelligent.
For years these doctors have never asked about your stool, what
you eat, or how well you sleep. Now, because they are losing
so much money, and so many people are seeking out the best way
to stay healthy, we are finally starting to see some changes
in their attitudes.
Damn it! Come on people - there's enough for everybody!
Look around you and see that the more help you give others,
the more you get back. It's a fundamental law that says,
What goes around, comes around. We do have Universal
Laws!
Yes, the alternative healthcare practitioners have been in the
hot seat for at least fifty years that I know of. My mother
went to a chiropractor in Florida that long ago. I remember
that it was considered akin to doing voodoo, and you didn't
really tell people that you were going to one. In time, I guess,
anything can be proven true. But, because it works, today chiropractic
is highly respected and covered by mainstream insurance. I can't
help but wonder about all the people in pain who aren't
given all the options available to them.
And, sometimes I wonder about my own circles of friends and
family. Some of them are still resisting taking stuff I've
recommended that's good for them. Oh, because the Almighty
Doctor didn't say it was OK. But, what if they just don't
know?!!!
I needed to say all this to support my feeling that if you don't
open up your mind, what you don't know will hurt you.
I'm excited that Aquarius will enter its thirteenth year,
because it's our #4 year (numerologically-speaking) and
that means new foundation. I don't know all the details
but we will soon!
Thanks
again to all our readers, advertisers, and writers for another
great year. We appreciate you.
Bye honeys
