Dog Hydrotherapy continued from last page

Most of the dogs love water and swimming on a regular basis keeps them healthy and fit, slowing down their aging process. As a result, the popularity of canine hydrotherapy is growing very rapidly.

Why is that technique working so wonderfully? For several reasons:

• First, a dog in water can train all his muscles without any obvious effort. Especially after an injury or postoperatively, the muscles will regain their vitality quicker than with a powerful and regular rehabilitation program.

• Secondly, when the body is immersed in water, its muscles stretch and relax and the spinal curvature changes, obtaining the same effects as yoga postures or an acupuncture session. In water, the energy is moving freely.

• Finally, and not the least important: it is painless, which makes our four-legged friends enjoy it so much!

After a hip replacement,  cruciate ligament repair, or other orthopedic surgery, normal exercises are limited and often painful. Hydrotherapy is an excellent way to speed the healing and improve muscle tone. Arthritis, hip and elbow dysplasia, orthopedic surgery, stroke and paralysis as well as muscle regeneration, pre- and post- surgical conditioning, geriatrics and other special services are some of the many ailments treated by Marna.
