Have you been sitting at your desk too long? Is your body aching? Shake it loose with Revitalize Your Body (REI Institute) by Jeff Strong. Percussionist and researcher Jeff Strong is the President of the REI Institute, the author of two books on music, and has eight CDs to his credit. Revitalize Your Body doesn't seem like an adequate title for this CD. It doesn't convey how powerful, primal, and exciting this music is. Picture African dancers dancing the movements of tigers and lions. See a cheetah running across the veldt. Feel your heart pumping wildly. That's what this music can do for you. It's meant to “stimulate and balance the Chinese acupuncture meridians” and serve as “your daily dose of 'rhythmic vitamins,'” the liner notes say. Get your day off to a fiery start with Revitalize Your Body and you won't need that treadmill! I LOVE this one; can you tell?

Ayurveda: Art of Being (Rasa Music), with music by French composer Cyril Morin, is an original motion picture soundtrack to Pan Nalin's film of the same name. Nalin's film tells the story of the Science of Life - Ayurveda - and travels over 15,000 kilometers from India to Greece and the US, detailing this ancient practice and its influence on world culture. Composer Cyril Morin has an abiding interest in Indian culture, music and philosophy. He intends the soundtrack as a way of “balancing music, meditation and healing.” As Ayurveda employs the five elements (fire, earth, water, air and ether or space), Morin's music portrays these energies in sound. The music is soothing, healing, and the quality of the music has the scope and beauty one would expect of a major movie soundtrack. Ayurvedic shlokas are performed by Vidya Rao, and featured instruments include: Turkish duduk, saranghil, violins, Balinese and Indian flutes, keyboards, guitars, luth, bandir, derbouka, and percussion. This is an exquisite album!

See the legendary blues man, Bo Diddley, at Asheville, NC's Bele Chere festival from July 25-27. Located in the center of downtown Asheville, the 25th Annual Bele Chere Festival is one huge party with great music, booths, games, rides, dances, sports, and one of the best outdoor art shows I've ever seen. This year, they've taken mercy on the artists and their patrons and located the art show in the shade at Biltmore Avenue parking garage. Only a short walk from the music stages, the art show promises outstanding photographers, painters, sculptors, handcrafted jewelry, pottery, clothing and more. Asheville really is jumping during Bele Chere. You don't want to miss that, do you?
