Adrian
Ross Duncan's Astrology: Transformation and Empowerment (Weiser Books) provides a comprehensive introduction
to counseling astrology, emphasizing the role
that chart interpretation can play in fostering
positive change in the life of the astrological
client.
Carol
Rushman's The Art of Predictive Astrology (Llewellyn) explains one of the most intriguing applications
of chart analysis: using transits, progressions,
retrograde planets, and other data to construct
accurate predictions of future events. It's
an ideal survey for the serious student, yet
accessible enough to entertain even readers
with only a casual interest in the subject.
A common element of spirituality the world
over is a recognition that nature - the world
of plants, trees and animals - is a powerful
source of wisdom, knowledge and insight. Here
are a few books that explore the mystical
gifts of the natural world. Patricia
Telesco's
& Rowan Hall's Animal Spirit: Spells,
Sorcery & Symbols from the Wild
(New Page) is part celebration of the natural
world, part manual on using animal imagery
in magical rituals and witchcraft. Sections
explore how animal wisdom illuminates astrology,
feng shui and spellcraft. Meanwhile, a reissue
of Nicki Scully's Power Animal Meditations (Bear & Company) brings her assortment of nature-based
meditative journeys to a new generation of
shamanic seekers. On the subject of reissues,
check out Steven Blamires' Celtic Tree Mysteries: Practical Druid Magic &
Divination (Llewellyn). This guide to
the lore of sacred plant magic in the Celtic
tradition provides information on the Ogham,
the Celtic alphabet which is related to divination
using tree lore. Another book on the Celtic
sacred alphabet
is New Zealander Paul Rhys Mountfort's Ogam: The Celtic Oracle of the Trees (Destiny Books). This work not only provides the basics
of divination using the Celtic tree lore,
but also provides a history of the Ogham,
both in ancient and modern times. British
author Nigel
Pennick's
Ogham and Coelbren: Keys to the Celtic Mysteries (Capall Bann Publishing) provides a fascinating
survey of the mythological background to Celtic
tree mysticism.
Carl
McColman is the author of The Well-Read Witch, and The Aspiring Mystic: Practical Steps for Spiritual
Seekers.
