A Witch Like Me: The Spiritual Journey of Today's Pagan Practitioners by Sirona Knight (New Page Books) recounts the personal stories of the author and twelve other leading figures in contemporary Witchcraft. All of the people profiled are writers, some of whom (like Raymond Buckland and Z. Budapest) have written classic books; others (like Curott or Raven Grimassi) are best known for books published in the last few years. What emerges is a richly textured invitation to the Old Religion through the many ways it has spoken to ordinary people. Story after story in this anthology clearly demonstrate that becoming Wiccan is a spiritual process that requires dedication, commitment, and hard work.
Wicca
Unveiled:
The
Complete
Rituals
of
Modern
Witchcraft
by
J.
Philip
Rhodes
(Speaking
Tree
Books)
may
not
be
as
easy
to
find,
as
it
is
imported
from
the
United
Kingdom
(most
metaphysical
bookstores
should
be
able
to
special
order
it).
This
is
essentially
a
book
of
shadows
for
a
generic
eclectic/traditional
form
of
the
Craft.
The
author
provides
detailed
information
on
a
variety
of
rituals,
from
basic
circle
casting
to
rites
of
healing,
initiation
into
the
three
degrees
of
the
Craft,
and
celebrations
for
each
of
the
eight
holidays,
or
sabbats,
observed
by
most
Witches.
Rituals
for
each
of
the
seven
inner
planets
highlight
the
magical
dimension
of
the
craft.
On
top
of
all
the
rituals,
the
book
includes
information
on
a
Witch's
ritual
tools,
the
eightfold
way
of
achieving
altered
states
of
consciousness,
and
tables
of
magical
correspondences.
Of
course,
many
books
have
been
published
that
provide
information
on
how
to
perform
Wiccan
ritual,
but
few
are
as
beautifully
illustrated,
steeped
in
tradition,
or
accessible
as
this
slender
volume.
Handfasted
and
Heartjoined:
Rituals
for
Uniting
a
Couple's
Hearts
and
Lives
by
Lady
Maeve
Rhea
(Citadel
Press)
may
only
appeal
to
those
who
are
planning
on
getting
married
-
or
to
Wiccan
priestesses
and
priests
-
but
it
deserves
a
mention
anyway,
for
two
reasons.
First,
it's
a
book
that
clearly
demonstrates
the
maturity
of
the
Craft:
here's
an
entire
volume
devoted
to
one
of
the
most
important
rites
of
passage
in
any
religion.
Forget
love
spells
and
sex
magic,
this
is
the
real
thing
-
rituals
of
commitment
and
joining
two
lives
together,
seeking
the
blessing
of
the
Goddess.
The
other
reason
this
is
a
book
worth
having
is
it's
full
of
great
ideas
for
planning
a
wedding
that
might
appeal
even
to
non-pagans.
From
the
legal
issues
involved
in
an
alternative
wedding,
to
dealing
with
the
inevitable
family
squabbles
that
seem
to
erupt
while
planning
a
handfasting,
this
is
a
solid,
common-sense
overview
of
a
spiritually
vital
topic.
