Don't ask me where a southern girl develops such a taste for Japanese koto music. All I can surmise is that it must be a past life thing. If you share my - admittedly rarified - taste for this art form, I recommend Nanae Yoshimura's The Art of the Koto: Volume Two, from Yatsuhashi to Miyagi. This album features six classical pieces composed in the seventeenth century to the early twentieth century, and the compositions of blind musicians Yatsuhashi Kengyo and Miyagi Michio. The music celebrates the cycles of nature and its change and transformation. Ms. Yoshimura also sings, in addition to masterfully performing on the koto, and the translations of the lyrics in the liner notes are a great help to understanding the meaning behind the music. John
Balint
says
of
the
concept
behind
his
new
CD,
Paradise
Within,
that
being
perfectly
present
in
the
moment
can
lead
you
to
paradise.
Not
a
place,
but
a
euphoric
state
of
mind,
where
everything
makes
sense.
No

No
future.
Only
the
splendor
of
the
here

Paradise
Within
is
an
attempt
to
express
that
idea
musically.
Each

relates
to
the
importance
of
being
in
the
moment,
and
how
that
can
profoundly
change
every
aspect
of
one's
life,
Balint
writes.
Balint's
music
has
been
described
as
somewhere
between
Pat
Metheny
and
Brian
Eno
with
its
beautiful
melodies
and
soaring
emotions.
He
uses
keyboards,
samplers,
percussion
instruments,
and
his

achieve
a
