HEART POWER
- THE GREATEST POWER OF ALL -
by Khaemille Vanderbilt
...What is power? Is it someone with the most money? Or someone who has the biggest muscles? Is it he with the most guns? Certainly these are forms of power. But behind them is a power that pales them all. True power lies in the mother who stays awake day and night by her child’s side while he lays in the hospital with cancer. True power lies in the sacrifice a soldier makes that his comrade may live. True power rests in the person that falls but gets back up to give their best again and again and again. True power is the power of caring.
...When we care for something—be it a person, a cause, or a project—we put our all into it. All of man’s greatest accomplishments were born out of putting his heart, sweat, and tears into his task. Madame Curie truly cared about humanity’s suffering, and that drove her to tap a level of effort and insight to give us penicillin. Gandhi’s heart poured towards suffering mankind, and from that love, he changed the world. Anne Frank cared deeply about her people, and so put herself at great risk to leave her love for their protection through her diaries. All that is good, noble, and enduring in human culture came from someone’s heartfelt concern for helping others. Heart and love are true powers driving the evolution of human civilization.
...Despite the endless examples, both great and small, of compassion and self-sacrifice manifested on a daily basis, we still seem to think that the power of the heart is naïve, impractical, not truly “real” in the “real” world. But when you were at your best—your best as a parent, your best as an artist, your best as an executive—you will find that you poured your heart into that moment. In fact, it is impossible to excel at anything that your heart is not into. Without heart-power, there is no human greatness.
...Greatness can manifest in the smallest of things. Try smiling tomorrow morning at your mate with a heartfelt smile. Pour your heart into helping your child with their homework. Do one task tomorrow on the job with caring and devotion. Say one sincere hello to the clerk behind the counter. You will quickly realize that your life is becoming richer. Sincerity is a potent and subtle force that can change your entire world. To make a difference in the world, start by making a difference in your immediate world. Day by day, little by little, your love and sincerity will touch others, who will be inspired to go forth and touch others. And the power of the sincere heart does it work.
...It is not weak to have heart. It is the brave heart that moves the souls of men. To love takes great courage and strength.
... The world we live in tries to convince us that love is for the weak. But without love, the world would be barren. It is time that the brave-hearts step forward, with pride and commitment, to make this a better world by putting heart back into their lives. Find what moves you, what you sincerely care for, and pour your all into that.
... Many believe that they don’t truly know what their calling is. But, even if you head doesn’t know, your heart does. The secret lies in knowing how to listen to your heart’s still, soft whisper. A quick way to do that is to think about the one thing that you want to be remembered for before you leave this Earth. What is the contribution you’ve always dreamed of giving to the world? A clue that you are asking the right question lies in feeling a bit embarrassed and ashamed to admit that this is your life’s dream. So, now, go into the shower, run the water, relax, focus on your heart chakra and just ask it, “What is the one thing that I want to be remembered for?” and listen. (The running water’s negative ion flux induces relaxation and accelerates deeper insight.) Your heart will open when you hear the answer, as if it is jumping with true joy and excitement. The last and most important thing to do now is to follow your heart. Listen. Trust it. Act on it. Do something, just one little thing, today with all of your heart. Find the thing that you want to be remembered for, and there you will find your personal power. Believe in your dream, for that dream is what makes reality worth living. The calling in your heart is your path to greatness. Trust in it. Share it. Believe in it with all your heart. The world will be glad that you did.
