Compatibility: a new twist on an age-old pickup line!

Remember when it was commonplace for people, upon first meeting,
to ask each other the sign they were born under?
And if you were lucky, you'd get a response that included one
of the twelve signs of the zodiac, rather than some smart reply
like Yield or Left Turn Only.
Well, a person's sun sign might not give you all the information
you need. To truly find out who's most compatible with you,
the planets of Venus and Mars as well as the moon will tell much
of the tale.
Surprised? Consider this. Carl Jung was a student of astrology
and he found that the positions of Venus and Mars had a lot to
do with the compatibility of couples. I conducted an interesting
experiment for a dating service several years ago. I proposed
that I could help them narrow down the ideal candidates best suited
to a given individual, based on Astrology. I was given a list
of about ten males and ten females and had to determine who was
most compatible with whom. I first used strictly sun signs, but
soon realized I was getting absolutely nowhere. But when I factored
in the moon, Venus and Mars, I found some obvious matches. My
results were in the 90 percent range of accuracy of those who
indeed married one another.
If you think about this from an astrological perspective, it makes
perfect sense. After all, Venus represents our love nature
what we value, what and who we enjoy, love and appreciate. It
is the feminine attracting principle. Mars, on the other hand,
represents our masculine side. He is our drive, our libido, and
the planet that represents physical attraction. It makes sense
that these two planets would play a strong role in the dance of
compatibility.
Another facet of compatibility involves the relationship of the
sun and moon. Rather than look at your sun sign in relation to
someone else's, look at your moon signs. The moon represents
our emotions, daily habit patterns, and our need to be nurtured.
One of the best configurations for a marriage happens to be a
conjunction between one person's sun (your identity) and the
other person's moon. If you have that configuration and one
or two other connections, say from Venus or Mars, it doesn't
take much more to make a solid, sustainable relationship.
The connections come through the aspects, or angular relationship
of planets to one another. Favorable aspects for the relationship
planets include a conjunction, which is when planets are anywhere
from 0-10 degrees apart, a trine, which is 120 degrees, or a sextile,
which is 60 degrees. Favorable aspects or angles between one another's
moon, Venus and Mars are helpful. Of course you also want to have
some connections to Mercury thrown in, since he represents communication.
Venus and Mars make for a fine time in the bedroom but Mercury
helps us verbalize what is on our minds.
Other planets can play a role in relationships. A little injection
of that all-important electrical chemistry comes through Uranus.
This guy does enhance the sense of the unpredictable, but it is
that same sense of the electrical that keeps you coming back for
more.
Other
facets of the chart should also be considered. If someone has
the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars in a prominent House position,
take note. Those places include your ascendant, which represents
how you come across, the 5th House, which is the House of Romance,
the 7th, the House of Marriage, and the 10th House cusp or Midheaven,
representing status.
It's nice if one of these planets is right on or just inside
the cusp of that House, but it's not chopped liver if they
are simply in those Houses.
Saturn often plays a strong role in relationships that
has its ups and downs. Saturn over your sun or moon can give you
a sense of being inhibited or restricted. Yet, it is also the
planet of karma and implies that this relationship has grown over
a significant period of time, such as lifetimes. Saturn helps
to ground, imparting endurance when well placed.
Another element to consider in your chart is nodes of the moon.
These consist of the North and South Nodes. The South Node tells
where you've been, what you've accomplished and therefore
what you bring with you in this lifetime. The North Node suggests
the ultimate direction in which you want to head this time around.
It seems more challenging simply because you haven't done
it before, but it also holds greater rewards than the South Node.
The South Node is considered the point of least resistance because
you've already accomplished it. But making the South Node
your ultimate focus can be a mistake and, if you focus too much
attention on it, you'll find you're swimming upstream. You'll
get more progress and satisfaction out of the North Node. So,
look for someone who has one of those important planets on your
North Node if you want them to contribute to your progress. Karmic
relationships may certainly have some South Node connections,
but too many of those could make you feel stuck.
