Dr. King continues speaking on her ministry's message:
So this is one thing we believe. We are not separated from God and God's
presence unites all of us, black, white, yellow, and, green together.
We [as a people] haven't realized that yet. That's why we have
racism and segregation and separatism, and all of the other 'isms.'
But there is just one power and we all came from that power. Why the
power chose to express itself as straight eyes or slant eyes, we don't
know. We feel that the power was wanting to bring about the unity of
all mankind. We believe in that and that's why we have no separation
in our church. If you want to come, we don't care if you are black,
white or what your 'ism' is.
Those of us in the New Thought Movement teach the principles of Jesus
the Christ as well as principles brought forth by other major teachers,
so I can listen to a Buddhist and not feel that we are separated. I
can listen to anyone. I can listen to an atheist and speak to him. He
may not want to accept what I have to say. I can be 'open' (I'm
sick of the word 'tolerant' to what other people's ideas
are and that is a new thought for many of our churches. [Many] churches
separate themselves out but we don't. People come to our church
who are Muslims. I have met with Mormons. I got along so well with a
Mormon doctor there that you would have thought that we were brother
and sister because we just hooked. But it was our spirit and if people
could come from that spirituality then we would stop looking at the
skin color and the education level and the economic level. If we could
[only] come from that spiritual level. People say it's a pipe dream
but it isn't. It can be done.
Donna: As a spiritual healer and truth motivator, what
does spirituality mean to you?
Barbara: It is the connecting link with all mankind. It is what
we call 'spirit.' It is our nature. We have a human side. We
have a divine side. We think that's what Jesus was saying, that
we are sometimes so human we can't be divine. But you use the human
to bring in your divine nature. Your thinking and your feelings are
what produce your experiences. If you're thinking negative you’re
going to produce negative experiences. But if you can, think positively
and lovingly. We've got to teach our children. We've got to
lead in such a way. I tell you, I'm a role model in a sense, but
if I can't model myself to give you something so that you can be
a better person then I'm not a role model.
