Mayan Myth Article continued from last page This oracle is very reminiscent of another, the I Ching, in that the numerics consist of combinations of lines that refer to a passage in a book of wisdom. The uses of the Mayan Oracle, however, are more diverse and profound. For example, there are different spreads for different purposes: the sword and chalice lay-out discriminates between the male and female aspects of one's consciousness while the three card consultation allows you to discover what is being overlooked in a particular situation, the new action that will resolve the issue and the final outcome or message. One spread I was particularly drawn to because of the shamanic nature of my work is that of the four directions. Whereas the I Ching focuses on how we can live harmoniously in what shamans call the middle world and the Chinese designate as the civilized society, the Mayan Oracle is designed to offer a galactic perspective. Who are you in relation to God? What have you come to Earth to learn and contribute? What will assist you on your spiritual journey? The work is not intended as a fortune-telling tool. Each of the 20 glyphs includes a pronunciation guide, a mudra, a meditation, an affirmation and a list of associations with color, herbs, flowers, scents, stones, element and direction. So, for example, if you were to draw the glyph Etznab, you would learn that the element is air and the direction is north. Since the color is silver and one of the herbs sage, to manifest Etznab in its most positive sense, you might want to don some silver jewelry and burn sage. I like the fact the Oracle offers practical aids in addition to facilitating vibrational shifts. Every glyph has its shadow aspect also, listed in a separate easy-to-use appendix. In a group healing intensive centered on the recent solar eclipse (eclipses in part being about our shadow), I had participants draw a card with the intention of identifying their dark side. One woman discovered a shadow she had not previously consciously recognized, but after drawing the card she was able to radically change her behaviors, her attitude and her life. The declared purpose of the Mayan Oracle is to move humanity into a new galactic vibration. My verdict? Far-out! And kudos on a stellar achievement. Judy
