Dreaming Article continued from last page.

But as the morning progresses and Steve leads each of us through the content of our dreams and dream fragments, we discover something amazing - the most important clues to the answers we have been seeking are contained in the very fragments we were ready to dismiss.

“Breakthrough dreams can come in any form,” Steve says. “Often for beginning dreamers, all that you will remember is the single fragment that burned its way into your mind. Should it be too surprising that it's the key? The fragment that sticks is the one with emotional content, and we know that emotion is the most common thread that connects dreams to life.”

As the workshop comes to a close late Sunday afternoon, we are satisfied and elated. The images and impressions from our dreams and dream fragments - without exception - have provided the breakthroughs we have been seeking. Each of us has experienced a profound “Ahah!” that gave new insight into our situations. We have unlocked our dreaming experience and opened new doors to the future.

Steve ends the day with a review of our new skills, and he congratulates and encourages us to keep practicing.

“I was amazed to learn how there can be so much information in a fragment of your own mind's eye,” Avril tells me after the workshop. “You can really find what you're looking for in whatever is set forth. Never underestimate the power of a dream at first glance.”

“I was totally blown away by the information that was contained in one tiny little fragment,” Christy says. “I've got a much clearer understanding of what I need to do now and what stands in my way.”

“For me,” Tim says, “the incredible realization was the stuff we were calling fragments were really rich. The keys to what we were looking for were right there.”

Tim admits he came to the workshop with some “really lofty things” he wanted to accomplish. It was a big awakening for him to see how much he might be missing in the small pieces, the fragments.

“I kind of see dreaming like a three-act play,” he says. The big action seems to take place in the first and second acts, but all that movement is really the set up in preparation for that one important moment at the end of the third act - the pivotal moment for the whole play.

“The big dreams we think are really important turned out to be staging for that fragment we almost didn't describe,” he tells me.

Now, Tim thinks of his dreaming mind as a partner and a resource. “Dreams are like your all-knowing and all-loving best friends - they are there for you,” he says. “It's been fantastic counseling. I know that it's not going to let me down.”

For me, the lesson is clear. Our dreaming minds are ready and willing to respond to us. If I provide clear questions and make a heart-felt request for guidance, I will be given answers. It's then up to me to learn how to listen.
