'BioWillie' Diesel Fuel Offers Environmentally Friendly Choice

In Midlothian, Texas on July 21, 2005, legendary musician and biodiesel pioneer, Willie Nelson announced that 'BioWillie' is now available from one of the country's leading truck stop operators. Now drivers can easily purchase this home-grown biodiesel fuel right from the pump at a Love's Travel Stop, 20 miles south of downtown Dallas.

Love's has partnered with Distribution Drive to supply BioWillie fuel to one of its Texas Travel Stops. The result of this partnership is that BioWillie diesel fuel is offered at the Love's Travel Stop in Midlothian.

'BioWillie' is the singer's unique brand of B20 biodiesel. Biodiesel is a clean burning biodegradable fuel that is produced domestically utilizing our nations' farmers while at the same time reducing America's dependence on foreign oil.

“Biodiesel is the future,” said Nelson, founder of Willie Nelson Biodiesel. “This is a great day for America when a major supplier of over the road diesel fuel like Love's decides to make biodiesel available. All of the major automotive and truck manufacturers are struggling to find new ways to meet fuel emissions standards and biodiesel is the most practical and readily available alternative. We have the necessary product right here at home, - our farmers can grow it and our truckers can use it without any modifications to their 18 wheelers.”

Nelson has been a long time supporter of farmers since the 80's with his Farm Aid organization. Nelson learned about biodiesel after his wife purchased a diesel Jetta and started using biodiesel to fuel it. Nelson and Peter Bell, of biodiesel supplier Distribution Drive, along with three other partners formed the Willie Nelson Biodiesel partnership in December 2004.

“We looked at the Love's network of Travel Stops and presence in the trucking market. After meeting with their executives and finding that it was family operated, it was clear that this was the kind of company that we wanted to represent the BioWillie brand,” said Bell. “By working with alert and innovative retailers like Love's, we plan to make BioWillie fuel available throughout America.”

BioWillie fuel is already available at the Carl's Corner truck stop in Texas and company representatives say future plans include seeing truck stops carrying the B20 BioWillie blend of biodiesel all over the Lone Star state.

Biodiesel offers environmental and engine benefits. It significantly cuts hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, particulate matter and virtually all sulfur emissions. Biodiesel blends increase lubricity, adding to engine life. With biodiesel's high flash point and non-toxicity, it is extremely safe to use and handle. The Technology: Using Vegetable Oil as a Fuel

The concept of using vegetable oil as a fuel dates back to 1895 when Dr. Rudolf Diesel developed the first diesel engine to run on vegetable oil. He demonstrated his engine at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900 and described an experiment using peanut oil as fuel in his engine.

In 1911, Rudolf Diesel stated: “The diesel engine can be fed with vegetable oils and would help considerably in the development of agriculture of the countries which use it.” In 1912, Diesel said “the use of vegetable oils for engine fuels may seem insignificant today. But such oils may become in course of time as important as petroleum and the coal tar products of the present time.”
