REKINDLING
THE ANCIENT FIRES:
Sacred Journey to South Africa
By
Tom Blue Wolf Goodman
We stand at a major crossroads in the story of our precious Mother Earth.
For the first time in human history, the pending destruction of the
entire planet is the direct result of human misconduct. The race between
global destruction and global awakening is neck and neck and running
full steam. With more than six billion people on the planet and 200,000
more being born
daily, our individual choices affect the sum total like never before.
In each moment that we choose victimization, oppression, fear, and greed,
we contribute to the sum total of these realities and the numerous ways
that they create havoc around the world. In the alternative, for each
moment we choose peace, forgiveness, light, and truth, there again we
contribute our sweet drop into the ocean of goodness that forms the
whole.
The traditional indigenous peoples of the world have been in ceremony
and reverent vigil for generations with the intent of correcting this
collision course and holding the guiding light for those who come forward
in this day to carry the torch. The prophesies of all tribes and nations
tell of this time in which we are now living. They say that when this
time comes, we must choose to be in counsel, in ceremony, and working
for the peace of the people. It is imperative that we ceremony and attend
to rites of passage, sing, dance, and drum in order to acknowledge this
time as it was foretold. They say that we are making room for the promise
of one thousand years of peace, therefore, we must perfect our relationship
with the divine, keep our ancestors close, asking for their assistance
as we pray that we might usher in the future in a good way. In this
we say All our relations being present with the divine,
with an eye on those who have come before us, and taking steps and setting
intentions in our prayers that promise a future for those yet to come.
It is incumbent upon the dream keepers, the earth keepers and the wisdom
keepers of this day to see that the balance is restored in the hearts
of the people. We must reawaken to the ancient dream of the rhythms
and migrations that were once a way of life for our people when we walked
lightly upon the earth. This ancient dream does not live in the past.
It is the key to the portal of our future, should we choose it. This
dream knows no space or time. It is a spiritual seed within our hearts
that must be called forth into consciousness.
In this way, each nation of indigenous peoples carries the embers of
a fire that was lit long ago in a time before time. We are now being
called upon to reunite these embers in the sacred fire of all people
to once again burn with a flame that speaks to the passion of the hearts
of all people. This sacred fire is represented in the medicine bundles
of spiritual leaders throughout the world.
Long ago some of these leaders, in the hopes of protecting the sacred
bundles from first world aggressions, sent their medicine into the dreamtime.
These bundles are now being brought out of the sacred one-dream to be
reclaimed by their rightful dream keepers so that the ancient medicine
songs can be heard once again for the healing of the people.
I am Tom Blue Wolf, Faith Keeper with the Star Clan, Y'falla Band
of the Lower Creek People of Turtle Island, Abia Yalla. I am the keeper
of my Grandfather's dream. There are sacred songs in these dreams
and they are crucial to the medicine of the heart and the story of our
people. My grandfather's medicine songs have been dreamed in South
Africa by Sangoma spiritual leaders there and are now ready to come
home. I have been asked to join council in the motherland in order to
receive them.
Various tribal leaders will attend this most auspicious occasion in
a way that has never before been seen. The ceremonies that will take
place in order for the remembering to occur are the main focus of our
mission to South Africa. We will meet with many inter-tribal spiritual
leaders including Vusamazulu Credo Mutwa, High Sanusi (High Priest)
of the Zulu Nation, Grandmother Nakuru Noria Nwashrilele Mukuleke, Sangoma
(Shaman) of the Shangan People, Pops Mohamed, world-renowned musician
and protector of indigenous traditions, Mother Toloki, Mother
Voice who speaks for the ancestors, along with the mysterious
and newly crowned Rain Queen Modjadji who only recently emerged from
sacred solitude to hold select private audiences.
It is our mission to rekindle the ancient fire in ceremony of the sacred
hoop with inter-tribal leaders in the motherland. To reconnect the dreamtime
of world peace, earth healing and the harmony and balance of mother
earth in keeping the promise of our ancestors and ensuring a future
for generations to come.
The
journey runs from September 7th through September 21st, 2004. You
