For
a lovely musical accompaniment to your Tai Chi practice, try The
Light Dance (Real Music), by Buedi Siebert. This
German musician has studied with Sun Bear, recorded in the
Cheops Pyramid, and practiced Tai Chi. The Light Dance
has a decided Oriental sound, with the versatile Siebert playing Guzheng
(large Chinese zither), bamboo flutes, keyboard and percussion. Other
instruments featured are guitars, piano and erhu. Siebert composed
the music for moving meditation in response to a request from IDOGO
master Ping Liong Tjoa. Dr. Tjoa is the director of several German
Tai Chi schools, and he developed the Idogo pole and training system
to enable people to reap the benefits of Tai Chi more quickly. The
Light Dance is refreshing, energizing, and calming music, perfect
for your moving meditations.
Embrace,
by Anup (Sitar Records), blends sitar ragas with worldbeat
rhythms and soaring melodies. It's a blend of Eastern and Western
styles in an uplifting, joyful mood. Sitar music is not always easy
for Western ears to appreciate, but this blending makes sitar more
accessible to those new to this instrument. Track two, 'Genesis
Wave,' is especially lovely and trance-inducing. Track three is
the most innovative take on 'Jingle Bells' I've heard,
and it's so much fun, you'll want to play it in July! Anup
aims to relieve the rather sombre image of Indian classical music,
and if this song doesn't do it, nothing will. 'Minor Song,'
track four, is a marriage of the Western classical piece, 'March
Slav', with the Indian raga 'Kirwani.' It is dynamic,
grand, and romantic. This has to be one of the most interesting and
creative albums I've heard all year.
