Walking the Fearless Path

by Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati

The blissful path of the seeker leads us to self-realization while ultimately raising our consciousness. To achieve greater consciousness, we need to embrace all of life, our spiritual work, our relationships, and the obstacles that are presented to us.

How do we manifest our consciousness? First, we need to finish what we start. Wherever we are, we must give everything to it. Finish; do not waste a second, and do not waste life. The fear of not getting anything done is the cause of procrastination. Driven by fear, one becomes afraid to commit to the moment, to completing what has been started.

Fear in life comes from a feeling that comes before fear itself. If we do not fear death, we will never fear anything in life. Fear is perishable; and with great awareness, we can watch fear disappear out of our lives.
There is a space where our physical body must connect with our soul. We are not this body, yet we must keep the body healthy and in good form to hold the soul and become more conscious.

The highest level of consciousness is available to us all as the mind begins to slow down and the heart opens more and more. This is each soul's destiny – to have us in the bliss of love all of our lives. Pure consciousness is simply awareness of love in every moment. It engulfs us and brings us to a timeless place, and we reach this space through the breath. One needs simply to breathe deeply and feel the way he or she is in the moment. Then let the thoughts float away.

Communion with the divine is essential. Spiritual practice and meditation are necessary; through meditation we become quiet and still enough to hear our soul. The soul is the essence of simplicity. It is the lower ego that brings complications. Expansion of consciousness is the result of a quiet mind. The consciousness of the seeker does not need to be altered, just expanded with the silent moment of feeling the essence of divinity. When we contemplate God in any form, we open ourselves to avenues of mystical experience. This is infused into the soul, and the dark night of the soul disappears. The many streams of consciousness begin when we open to one stream of acceptance. The soul is pure consciousness and wisdom. The soul is that which is permanent.

Yet the soul can be covered by fear. Many people are afraid to meditate because they are afraid to be alone with themselves. They become afraid to see parts of themselves that they may not like. Self-realization is the fulfillment of fearlessness. A person who is on the path of liberation and compassion is a person who is not afraid to embrace these fears.

Sometimes the silence of God can be frightening, and that fear lies in knowing oneself. The reason we may become afraid is that we do not want to know or see our darkness. We fear being alone. When we awaken to our fears and darkness, we can learn to understand and master anything that arises in life. When we nourish emotional feelings with fear, we live out of the moment. When we become a witness to our feelings, we become more aware of the depth of who we are. If we open our heart when we become afraid, our fears will lessen. For example, the fear of rejection can be greater than the fear of anything; but when we understand in the deepest part of our being that we are loved, the fear of rejection burns in the fire of our being that is always lit inside of us.

When we embrace our fear, our perception changes. We learn to accept both the beauty and the pain of life. We only have to step away from our fear so we can experience unconditional love. When we can consume our fear of the darkness, we can feel the stillness of the moment. When we draw out all of our fears, we can explore them and understand them; and then we can awaken to our higher consciousness.
