Honor,
Protect and Action
What
a day! Today Terri Schiavo's fate will be decided. Outside
the weather is dark and gloomy matching the feelings in the hearts
of those that wish Terri's life could have been different...
I'm not in judgement here of what's right or wrong. As
a mom I'd beg for her every breath so I might live too. I
would choose to stay in the familiar (bad) situation rather than
face the fear and devastation that her death would bring me.
Every
time I claim to have an opinion, or have anything negative to
say about our government, someone emails me and says that I shouldn't
write about this stuff, stay away from politics or they won't
read us anymore.
Maybe I should stay in La-La land, hang out in the astral realms,
and communicate with the devas, elves and such... but I won't
because that's not me... I love a civil discussion that makes
you aware of how others think and what drives them to do certain
things. I'm not a debater, and I don't want to impose
my views on anyone - but I certainly do have a few!
So, what else will the politicians do to violate our civil rights
and trample all over the line between state and church? What's
next now after totally disregarding the ruling of judges in ten
court hearings for over a seven year period?
What are they thinking? I have an idea! How about this - the fundamentalist
Christians were owed big time from the last election! We were
wondering how they'd get paid back. Heck! Let's just make
a big stink over taking away a dying woman's right to live.
No, No, we're not talking about abortion are we? Are we talking
about the right to choose, or are we talking about the right to
life... Just a thought!!!!
Thank God our forefathers were on the ball. A few very smart men
saw into the future and predicted that some incompetent followers
with tunnel vision would one day be in their shoes. They protected
us with the Constitution and built us a system of rules.
The rule of law is the brick and mortar of our democracy. We must
never allow any political party to amend this sacred document.
If we do, we will all pay dearly and be sorry! I love knowing
that even under extreme pressure from a sitting president and
Congress the process and the rule of law prevails.
The 9-11 tragedy gave our government unprecedented control over
our minds, hearts, and money. We were all scared brainless and,
of course, we wanted to follow someone with unlimited purse strings.
We needed a leader to help us through the mourning—not just
for the dead, but for our innocence as a country. Without
laying blame or taking sides, I just want to know that we're
working on the things that will make us healthy again. I think
we should all be concerned and ready to go into 'Action.'
That will work - that's my mantra. God helps those who help
themselves. Do you know the one good thing that has come out of
the Terri Schiavo case? We've been alerted to the sad reality
that this could happen to any one of us. The way to protect yourself
is by having a Living Will today!
I found a website that I'd like to share with you - www.agingwithdignity.org
It's easy to do and inexpensive. You do not need an attorney,
and Georgia is one of 38 states that recognize this as a legal
will. For a short time we will add it to our Preferred Website
listings, so you can find it there: click
here. Our mission is to help you and your family plan and
receive the care you deserve. Something is terribly wrong: The
majority of Americans want to die at home surrounded by family
and friends, but most end up dying in the hospital or nursing
home, cared for by strangers. Half of Americans die in pain that
could have been treated. Sick people have come to fear losing
their dignity or burdening their families more than they fear
death. And this is all happening in a country that is meant to
prize the rights of individuals and champion respect for personal
wishes.
The 'Five Wishes' document helps you express how you want
to be treated if you are seriously ill and unable to speak for
yourself. It is unique among all other living will and health
agent forms because it looks to all of a person's needs: medical,
personal, emotional and spiritual. Five Wishes also encourages
discussing your wishes with your family and physician.
Five Wishes lets your family and doctors know:
1) Which person you want to make health care decisions
for you when you can't make them.
2) The kind of medical treatment you want or don't
want.
3) How comfortable you want to be.
4) How you want people to treat you.
5) What you want your loved ones to know.
I know my family will do this because we choose alternative medicine,
which means preventative healthcare. I know if I don't spell
it out my medical preferences would be severely violated. We take
herbs and roots and use Massage, Acupuncture, Reiki, Sound Therapy,
Chiropractic, etc - we're always ready to try all the new
Radionics devices. However, this particular document (5
Wishes) seems to address it all and will give you peace
of mind.
