Wesak Festival: The Buddha's Blessing By Lisa Armano
When the full moon is in the constellation of Scorpio and the sun is
in Taurus (usually occurring in the month of May), Wesak (Visakha Puja),
the holiest of Buddhist holy days takes place. In the east, this date
marks the celebration of Gautama Buddha's birth, his attainment
of enlightenment (samma-sambodhi), and the time of his final departure
from his physical body (parinirvana). festival were initially brought to the west in the earlier part of the twentieth century through the writings of Alice A. Bailey. It is a day of reunion, pilgrimage, and joyful anticipation, and is recognized as a time of divine energy outpouring to all. Participation in this festival has physical and ethereal counterparts, and the effects are believed to be of a great spiritual magnitude. of Wesak lies within the life of the Lord Buddha and his devotional
service to mankind. The Buddha's purpose to remain here on earth
after enlightenment is to help all reincarnating spirits make their
