Such thinking bespeaks the urgent need for all “peoples of the earth” (Zeph. 3:2) to improve their understanding of the beliefs that are fueling the worldwide crisis. But many nonbelievers reasonably argue that if the traditional teachings of Judaism, Christianity and Islam were as wise and truthful as their clergies claim, they could never have bred the hatreds that have historically plagued believers and now threaten to destroy the world. And atheists believe current events prove that mankind must “outgrow” all childish, superstitious beliefs. But the vast majority of the world population firmly believes in a Higher Power, and the reasoning of skeptics who have never experienced a “spiritual awakening” cannot sway them. Regardless of our different opinions, deliverance from the pending agony rests with all “peoples of the earth,” since we are the generation that can fulfill the worst of all the prophecies – and, if we fulfill them, everyone will suffer.

The Prophets foretold a time when our flesh will “consume away” (Zech. 14:12), and “gross darkness” shall cover “the peoples” (Isa. 60: 2). We're also told that if those days were not shortened, “no flesh would be saved,” but we are promised “those days will be shortened” (Matt. 24:22), and all who “endure to the end” (Matt. 24:13) shall see the sun rise with “healing in its wings” (Mal. 3: 20). That means, if “those days” must befall us, mankind will be here to see the sun rise!

Yet, we are told that we could avoid the horror if the “fathers” and the “children” turn their hearts to each other. (Mal. 3:24)  Current events can help us understand that the Jews, as the “fathers” of monotheism, and the Christians and Muslims, as the “children” of the faith, along with all human beings who are “children of God,” urgently need an improved understanding of the guidance mankind has received. Then they could turn to each other with heartfelt respect for the truths each religion has revealed.

If believers made real peace with each other, then nonbelievers would finally have a tangible reason to rethink their own beliefs. Or, if nonbelievers were to compare current events with the ancient prophecies, they might recognize what proud Jews, Christians and Muslims refuse to believe, because they are devoted to promoting their own religion above all others! If enough “independent thinkers” changed their thinking, they would command the attention of the self-aggrandizing “believers” who refuse to think their clergies could have misinterpreted some of their Prophets' messages!

If our understanding improves, one person at a time, it could lead to a groundswell that could spare us a nuclear holocaust – which our current “peace rallies” can only postpone, at best. Were enough people to embrace the teachings of all the Prophets, they would accomplish much. At the least, they would be armed with sufficient understanding to “endure to the end,” when they shall “go forth and gambol as calves of the stall” (Mal. 3:20).  At best, their unprecedented understanding would enable the world to avoid the “darkness” of a nuclear winter and usher in the promised time of healing and “peace without end” (Isa. 9:6).
