Vital Messages from Ancient Prophets

For the last half-century, children have had to learn that their elders possess biological, chemical and nuclear weapons, which could destroy life on earth. So, millions of young people began singing and “rapping” about killing and dying.

While youth cried out in morbid songs, their elders convinced themselves that no nation would initiate nuclear warfare, and some even believed that worldwide disarmament was becoming reality. Youth cloaked their fear in dismal lyrics; adults found solace in wishful thinking. But current events are forcing everyone to acknowledge the real possibility of nuclear war. Now, we need to use our realism constructively, which means we urgently need to speak openly and honestly about the age-old religious arguments that are threatening to ignite a nuclear holocaust – and we urgently need to resolve the arguments.

If you think that trying to resolve ancient religious differences is a useless pursuit, you haven't heard what the Prophets of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam tell us, when their most vital messages are linked together. Their combined teachings settle the very arguments that have driven believers in Abraham's God to hate and kill each other.

The clergies of the three religions have always believed they are preaching “the truth” as best man can know it. But 2,000 years of bloody religious history testify to the disruptive teachings each faith incorporated into interpretations of its own Holy Book. For example, some interpretations have inspired militant Muslims to pursue a modern-day “religious war,” in which they truly believe it is their “God-given duty” to cleanse the world of “unbelievers.” They identify “unbelievers” as everyone who is not a properly observant Muslim. That means they're not open to negotiations with persons they consider “infidels,” or to pleas for “tolerance and peace,” which have been fruitlessly voiced throughout history. In other words, we are already engaged in a religious war in which both sides believe they are “the good” fighting “the evil,” so they could righteously use weapons of mass destruction against their “evil enemies”!
